We traveled over 19 hours or 1170 miles last week down 1-40 from Mississippi (where there was a heat warning today of 105-yikes) to lovely Colorado (Allen's fav place eva) in an 11 year old suburban "bessie" who just got a new engine...with 4 children under the age of 10... it was AWESOME!! They were stuck in their seats (and you can judge me but) i let them play their iPhone's, Kindles, IPad's all the way!! It was a wonderful time for Allen and me to talk about the past crazy times in life, the good times, the bad, we dreamed together about the future and were mostly thanking God for the present. We are faith people and its good to remind each other of that, esp when times get tough, but this time it was fun because everything is pretty good and we are content.
Some highlights from our trip: the millions of grasshoppers at a random conventint store...Pandora radio (Drew Holcomb station)...hundreds of windmills throughout Oklahoma and Texas... the starbucks stops...the Splash Kingdom water park in Amarillo...the Kavu purse/backpack that you can wear while you pee at rest stops...Mumford and Sons new album "Wilder Mind" esp "the Wolf" and "Cold Arms"..the Clayton New Mexico Dinosaur Trail with preserved footprints of Dinosaurs...and finally the Best Western Vista Inn in Buena Vista CO where we woke up to the collegiant peaks each morning.... Now we are settled at Frontier Ranch, a Young Life camp, in BV for a month assignment.
Our log cabin is called "York" and is so quaint and cozy and was built literally in the 1920's... all 6 of us share a tiny bathroom where you can pee and wash your hands at the same time... our "backyard" is a cliff and the high ropes course that overlooks a stream...this place is also very special to me because I met Jesus here 21 years ago as a wild teenager who was searching...more on that later!!
